Facts Are Free
This campaign was developed in partnership with one of Canada’s leading advocacy organizations – Environmental Defence. The goal of this undertaking is to build a broader awareness of the very real environmental crises effecting our clean water, climate and healthy communities. Thanks to a collaborative effort among members of the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) we will spread an effective and important environmental message to communities across Canada.
For many in our sector there is a strong belief that climate change is indeed a reality. This campaign acknowledges the findings and further informs our communities of the facts because – facts should be free.
Around 50 radio stations signed up to broadcast facts for free. We predict our campaign reached an estimated 500,000 Canadians during the election period.
The environmental facts provided by Environmental Defence cover recycling, clean energy, the Boreal forest and more. Environmental Defence is a leading Canadian advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities.

According to reports provided to us by 11 of the participating stations the campaign lasted on average 23 days starting the week of the 23rd of September and all of them concluded on or around the 20th of October.
Of the 11 reporting stations the PSA’s were broadcast 1159 times. A paid for campaign with a non-profit rate would to reach that total would be valued around $17,500.
We estimate that during the campaign as a whole the PSA’s were broadcast an estimated 5800 times. A paid for non-profit rate campaign of the same size would be valued at an estimated $87,000
